Chengdu Green blocks

City blocks as an extension of the park

ONG&ONG

Location: Chengdu, China

Year: 2017 – concept

Project size: 94,000m2

Role: Concept, facade design

The sites' specific context of belonging to the city grid on the north and overlooking the park on the south inspired us to invite the park into the central yards and extend it both horizontally and vertically within the building. This way the greenery takes on performative functions such as bringing people up on different levels of the podium, providing privacy screens for residential units while also increasing the building’s sustainable performances and creating enjoyable public amenities for the residents. This continuous transformation of greenery stitches building and landscape together serving as a model of how nature can inform building technology. Defining clear sustainable experiences from all vantage points within and without this central site is imperative.
